The Greater Felony

about

'The Greater Felony' is a song I've written that deals with some familiar preoccupations of mine. In particular, the whole thing of change and changes. Perhaps even the mutability of change itself because change itself changes. It was recorded in Crown Lane Studio in Morden, London and produced by John Merriman. I got some good feedback from an in-house songwriter at Sony Music at the time.

lyrics

I would love to stay
But I must go
Best be on my way
It's time for me to go

Everything gets re-arranged
Nothing stays the same
The zebra kept his stripes
But the leopard's spots have changed

Chorus:
And the moon goes down
The moon goes down
The sun begins to rise
The moon goes down
On tired fireflies
And it is time for me
To fly
I have to fly

It's so quiet in here
The curtain is across the stage
Everyone waits expectantly
For the new age

And the lion is in the shadow
Down by the waterhole
The antelope is restless
She wants to save her soul

Repeat Chorus

If I waste your time
That would be a crime
But it's the greater felony
If you've wasted mine

Everything gets re-arranged
Nothing stays the same
The zebra kept his stripes
But the leopard's spots have changed

And the moon goes down
The moon goes down
The sun begins to shine
The moon goes down
The moon goes down
On tired fireflies
And it is time for me
Oh it is time for me
Yes it is time for me
To fly
I have to fly
